Brazilian blowouts and keratin treatments bond proteins to the outer layer of the hair, therefore smoothing and straightening the hair. A keratin treatment is a hair smoothing treatment that conditions, smooths and straightens dry frizzy hair. Keratin treatments do NOT cause damage to the hair follicle. Keratin treatments build up the hair up. Keratin treatments do not break it down.

The bonding process happens during the hot blow-dry and flat iron application. Both Brazilian blowouts and keratin treatments remove frizz and add shine. The Brazilian blowout is the popular option, but not the best!! Before I get into the reasons why, let’s discuss these treatments in detail.

Brazilian Blowouts

The product used for this treatment gets its protein from a blend of amino acids. Before the product is applied, the hair is shampooed and dried until only a small amount of moisture remains. Once the application is through, the hair is blown and flat-ironed. Unfortunately, the Brazilian Blowout produces a formaldehyde gas .

Keratin Treatments

Similar to the Brazilian Blowout, keratin treatments start with shampooing the hair and drying it completely. Next, the product is applied and covered with a cap for roughly 20 to 30 minutes. The hair is then rinsed, dried and flat ironed. The active ingredient is a safe, non toxic glyoxilic acid. Clients leave the salon with the product partially or completely in their hair and are asked to wash it out after three days.

Keratin treatments take between two and three hours. The keratin treatment lasts about three months. The more you do it, the longer they last.

We love seeing the look on a client’s face when the treatment is finished.
